29 Palms Marines summoned to Los Angeles ![]() TWENTYNINE PALMS – (INT) – As many as 700 US Marines will respond from the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base to keep the peace in Los Angeles after ICE agents began rounding up allegedly illegal immigrants.
Their assignment is to help protect federal agents and buildings. Their deployment comes after President Trump deployed the National Guard as a move to keep the peace. A statement Monday from the Northern Command of the Defense Department read “2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division will seamlessly integrate with the Title 10 forces under Task Force 51 who are protecting federal personnel and federal property in the greater Los Angeles area.” Anti-ICE protests continued in their fourth day Monday as more agitators joined in the street protests. Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have called the deployment of the National Guard into the city as an unnecessary escalation and an act of political theater.
