Financial burdens outweigh polluting appliances
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – Natural gas water heaters and appliances may be getting an extended life.

The governing board of the AQMD has voted down proposed rules that would have phased out the appliances.

Board member Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said he is firmly committed to reducing emissions and protecting air quality, but the proposed rules would have imposed a financial burden on homeowners and small businesses. He proposed “a thoughtful, data-driven approach that balances environmental goals with economic and practical realities.”
