Innovative rocker Sky Stone dies at 81 GRANADA HILLS - Sly Stone, one of the most influential and groundbreaking musicians of the late sixties and early seventies who smashed the boundaries of rock, pop, funk, and soul, died on Monday (June 9th). He was 82.
Sly and the Family Stone's membership included two of his actual siblings, and they released massive hits like "Dance to the Music,” "Everyday People" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).” However, his drug use and behavior affected the group, which split up for good in the ‘80s. Despite his ups and downs, he told The Guardian in 2023, “I never lived a life I didn’t want to live.” Stone died at his home in Granada Hills, Los Angeles, at the age of 82. His family said in a statement provided to Rolling Stone that Stone had died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and "other underlying health issues". Story Date: June 10, 2025
