No more unaccounted for in tragic Lake Tahoe boating mishap
The last missing victim of a tragic Lake Tahoe capsizing, which killed eight people and injured two others, was found dead Monday afternoon, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDCSO) said.
Two people were originally missing after a boat capsized during a freak storm at Lake Tahoe Saturday night. Divers pulled one of the missing victims from the lake Saturday evening. On Monday, divers returned to the lake and recovered the last victim. “There are no more unaccounted persons from this tragic event,” EDCSO said. “The search and recovery efforts have been concluded.” According to the Coast Guard and witnesses at the scene, weather conditions were harsh at the time. Thirty-knot winds and up to 8-foot swells were roiling the lake, and Coast Guard officials said “a large swell” was responsible for the boat capsizing. Video taken at the lake on Saturday afternoon shows other boats crashing into one another and high winds rocking the area. A boat captain with decades of experience on Lake Tahoe told South Tahoe Now that Saturday’s sudden squall was the worst he’s ever seen. Story Date: July 2, 2025
