Fear cancels Palm Springs pilgrimage
PALM SPRINGS – (INT) - Palm Springs annual Our Lady of Guadalupe pilgrimage, traditionally held on December 12th, has been canceled.
Mayor Ron deHart says “The event has been silenced due to ICE raids and the immigration enforcement that have left families afraid to walk openly in their own streets.” The mayor called for “action to protect vulnerable families and defend the freedom to express faith without fear, to honor heritage without worry, and to walk in unity without the threat of detention.” Organizers say the pilgrimage is a 30-mile journey of “faith, culture, and unity”, and the largest of its kind outside of Mexico City.
