Is California keeping us mobile?
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Getting from here to there in the Inland Empire can be a costly and sometimes unsafe proposition.
That’s the conclusion of TRIP, a national transportation research non-profit. It has examined road and bridge conditions, congestion and reliability, highway safety, economic development, vehicle travel trends, and the impact of recent state and federal transportation funding increases. It found that 52 percent of major locally and state-maintained roads in the Riverside-San Bernardino urban area are in poor or mediocre condition. - three percent of bridges (80 of 2,542 bridges) are rated poor/structurally deficient - traffic congestion in the Riverside-San Bernardino area causes 72 annual hours of delay for the average motorist Delays cost the average driver $1,687 annually in lost time and wasted fuel. On average, Riverside-San Bernardino drivers waste 23 gallons of fuel annually due to congestion. Story Date: October 8, 2025
