California math and literacy test scores improve
SAN DIEGO – State School Superintendent Tony Thurmond is claiming measurable gains in math and literacy assessment scores among California students.
“We are now seeing the results of our commitment to improve math and literacy proficiency in California schools, one of my top priorities as we implement a statewide strategy for student success,” Superintendent Thurmond said. “These gains reflect not only the hard work of students and educators, but also the critical importance of providing necessary resources for academic achievement.” Additional funds from the 2025–26 state budget will significantly expand extended learning programs, boosting participation by doubling the minimum grant award. Thurmond said it’s a much-needed change, especially for rural and smaller school districts. Story Date: October 16, 2025
