MONTCLAIR – (INT) – Montclair police say that a chase, a kidnap and gunfire played a role in a midnight Tuesday car crash that left one person dead.

Three people got involved in an altercation that touched off a bullet-punctuated chase through the north end of the city.

One vehicle rammed another sending it into a tree on Benson Avenue. Officers found one male occupant dead.

Police concluded that all those involved knew each other and that the incident was not random. Their names were not made public.
