Southwest passengers in line for upgrades
SOUTHLAND - Southwest said it has just started flying its first 737 MAX 8 with a new cabin design — one that will be featured in all new Boeing aircraft that the company receives.
The cabin has new seats, an extra-legroom section that is being installed on all Southwest jets in preparation for its changeover to assigned seating, larger overhead bins, and power ports (USB-A and USB-C) at every seat. The airline noted that customers in the extra-legroom seats will be included in Boarding Group 1 or 2 and will get free “premium beverages” and enhanced snack options. Starting in the middle of next year, Southwest said, it will begin modernizing its 737-700 fleet, including the addition of in-seat power ports. Another enhancement for Southwest passengers is in-flight Wi-Fi available for free to all members of its Rapid Rewards loyalty program. Story Date: November 1, 2025
