Skywatchers being treated to lunar special
SOUTHLAND – (INT) - The Moon is doing something it hasn’t for more than 18 years.
Its orbit around Earth is now tilted at the greatest angle from the path of the Sun. This is visible on the ground each month as the Moon rises and sets as far north and as far south as it is ever seen. It’s called the ‘major lunar standstill’. It’s taking place now and skywatchers can see it repeated nightly through the end of the year, according to the staff at the Griffith Observatory. Story Date: November 13, 2025
