Another reason to celebrate in Loma Linda
LOMA LINDA - Forty years ago, a 4-day-old baby made history as the first successful infant-to-infant heart transplant recipient in the world. Today, Eddie Anguiano, known as “Baby Moses,” is thriving, and he’s reuniting with the care team who made history.

Loma Linda University Health is celebrating this milestone honoring Eddie’s journey and the teamwork that made this groundbreaking success possible. It features a panel discussion of the landmark procedure, the future of heart transplants, and a slideshow highlighting Eddie, the late Dr. Leonard Bailey, and his care team.

In 1984, Dr. Bailey made history with Baby Fae, the first baboon-to-human heart transplant. While Baby Fae survived only 21 days, the procedure paved the way for the first successful human-to-human infant heart transplant in 1985 with Baby Moses. Eddie not only survived but remains healthy and active today, marking 40 years with his original transplanted heart—the longest survival of any infant heart transplant recipient.
