Mountain hikers warned not to violate closures
MT. BALDY – (INT) – Despite sunny skies and warming temperatures, the Forest Service has extended closures of several hiking trails around Mt. Baldy and Ontario Peak the rest of the winter.

Closed through March 20th are:
• Mt. Baldy Trail (Trail No. 7W12)
• Mt. Baldy Bowl Trail (Trail No. 7W02)
• Devils Backbone Trail (Trail No. 7W05)
• Three T’s Trail (Trail No. 7W06)
• Icehouse Canyon Trail (Trail No. 7W07)
• Chapman Trail (Trail No. 7W07A)
• Ontario Peak Trail (Trail No. 7W08)

Since December 27th, three hikers have fallen to their deaths on Mt. Baldy and several others had to be rescued near Ontario Peak.

Those caught in the closure areas could be fined up to $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment not to exceed than six months, or both., the Forest Service said.
