California’s mountain snowpack comes up short
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – The latest check on the Sierra Nevada snowpack finds it’s 66 percent of average for this time of year and will play a big role in the state’s water supply.
While the mountain snowpack improved in February, the State Department of Water Resources (DWR) said recent storms were not enough to get the state back to average conditions. The DWR said Friday the mid-February storms were some of the coldest and best snow-producing storms in three years. But, much warmer weather has hastened the snow-melt. Story Date: March 2, 2026
