San Bernardino making bus ride safer
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – San Bernardino Police are waging a collaborative traffic enforcement campaign with Omnitrans.

During a recent 1-day operation, fifty-eight drivers and pedestrians were cited for assorted vehicle code violations many involving the safe operation of city buses. Police said they are responding to an increase in what was described as “nonpreventable traffic collisions against Omnitrans buses.”

OmniTrans is taking the offensive after several buses were hit by motorists committing an assortment of traffic offenses.

San Bernardino police officers are riding ‘shotgun’ on the buses as witnesses to initiate enforcement of the California Vehicle Code. Violations will be video recorded and suspect drivers will be immediately sidelined.

Recent violations include driving in a designated bus lane, unsafe turns, failing to yield the right of way to an approaching bus and failing to stop at red traffic signals and stop signs.

OmniTrans bus drivers say they are seeing numerous motorist, pedestrian and other traffic violations almost daily.
