Riverside voters to decide increasing sales taxes
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – A measure to raise Riverside’s sales tax will be decided on the June 2nd ballot.
The City Council decided unanimously Tuesday (March 3rd) to place Measure Z before the voters. The 1-cent increase would raise an additional 21-million dollars annually to help offset an assortment of increasing costs. Those involve personnel and pension costs, inflation and unfunded state mandates. City officials are expecting costs associated with cybersecurity threats targeting aging city systems, public safety communications, animal control, liability insurance, and technology. The City also is trying to ensure the Riverside Fire Department has the tools and personnel to fight fires and save the lives of people experiencing medical emergencies. Only a simple majority is required to pass Measure Z. Story Date: March 5, 2026
