Bill streamlines CCW permitting process
SACRAMENTO - (INT) - Obtaining or renewing a concealed weapons permit (CCW) in California could get easier.
A bill to improve the efficiency of the concealed carry licensing system is proceeding through the state Legislature. AB 1948 extends the duration of a concealed carry weapon measure, does not alter eligibility requirements, background checks, or training standards, but focuses on improving administrative efficiency. San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus says his agency currently oversees thousands of active permit holders, issues nearly 1,000 new permits annually, and processes more than 4,000 renewals each year. “The current two-year renewal cycle creates unnecessary administrative burdens for both applicants and issuing authorities,” Assemblymember James Ramos of Highland said. “AB 1948 streamlines the process and reduces costs for residents.” Story Date: March 19, 2026
