RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Initial work is beginning to replace the seismically unsafe Mission Boulevard Bridge over the Santa Ana River.

The 70-year-old span connects Riverside and Jurupa Valley and no longer meets earthquake safety standards.

Its replacement will be an 11-hundred-foot-long span with two traffic lanes in each direction, added shoulders, a raised safety center median and multipurpose trail designed for pedestrians, equestrians, and cyclists.

The 91-million dollar cost will be divided among the cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, Riverside County, the Federal Highway Bridge Program and Proposition 1B.

Completion of the project is anticipated in late 2029.
