Riverside wrestles with pending budget imbalance
RIVERSIDE – (INT) - Officials in Riverside say their city is facing growing financial uncertainty driven by slowing revenues and rising costs. They’re calling for prudent but immediate action.
The proposed 2026-28 budget has been developed during the past six months. It’s under review by the Budget Engagement Commission and other boards and commissions. General Fund revenues are projected to decrease by 17-point-2 million dollars over the next two years as expenditures balloon by 44 million dollars. With some budget adjustments “the City is tightening its belt and living within its means,” City Manager Mike Futrell said. The spending plan heads to the City Council May 19th with final adoption June 23rd. Story Date: April 9, 2026
