Southland weather is becoming a study in contrasts
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) - A transition in Southern California’s weather is coming.
KEY POINTS • Cooler weather expected through Tuesday. • Chance for light showers Monday and Tuesday from the coast to the mountains. • Increased heat risk for inland valleys and deserts later this week. With the arrival of a new month, May Gray has been right on schedule. But the night and morning low clouds across the inland valleys aren’t the only features of a highly variable weather outlook. A meandering, cut-off low is taunting the coastline giving fits to forecaster’s predictions for the next couple of days. It’s created a marine layer 5-thousand feet thick, morning drizzle from the coast into the valleys and potent winds in the deserts strong enough to create stir up clouds of dust. This system has brought much cooler weather to most of the Southland. But the atmosphere will shift gears beginning Wednesday with the onset of drier, warmer temperatures. The area of low pressure will exit Southern California and replaced with high pressure expected to expand into the end of the week. Story Date: May 4, 2026
