ICE would receive $30B funding boost under Senate GOP proposal
Senate Republicans would allocate more than $30 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under a reconciliation proposal released by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley’s office.

The proposal provides $30,725,000,000 for ICE through September 30, 2029, according to legislative text from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The ICE funding would cover hiring, training and salaries for personnel, including officers, attorneys and support staff, as well as transportation costs for removal operations. The proposal also directs money to IT systems, including fee collection upgrades and body-worn cameras, along with facility and fleet maintenance to support enforcement activities.

The proposal also includes $1 billion for the U.S. Secret Service for security-related work connected to President Donald Trump's White House Ballroom project.

The reconciliation proposal from Grassley, the Republican from Iowa, comes after Trump signed legislation on April 30, ending a partial DHS shutdown that had lasted nearly 11 weeks and funding most DHS agencies through September 30. That separate measure did not include ICE and Border Patrol, which Republicans are seeking to finance through reconciliation.

"While the majority of the Department has now been funded, I remain committed to ensuring every component of DHS, including those tasked with border security, has the resources and oversight needed to succeed," House Homeland Security Chair Andrew R. Garbarino, a New York Republican, said in a press release. (Source: Newsweek)
