FONTANA – (INT) – Fontana has emerged one of the top suburban cities in California for construction of single-family homes.

Fontana’s rate for new construction was 83 percent last year, according to the state Department of Finance. Only Bakersfield was higher at 86 percent.

Fontana added 806 units while strong single-family construction was noted in smaller communities such as Manteca, Elk Grove, Roseville and Lathrop.

As for multi-family housing, Los Angeles led the state, gaining 7,061 multi-family units in 2025.
