Threat from Hurricane Polo raising new concerns for Southern California beaches
SOUTHLAND - There are new concerns about the already-battered Southern California coastline due to the threat from Hurricane Polo, one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Pacific, which is currently churning off the coast of Mexico.

While Hurricane Polo won’t make landfall in Southern California, damaging waves could have devastating effects on coastal communities.

The coastline has already endured a summer of powerful swells, with storms washing away sand, damaging waterfront homes and prompting local emergency declarations in several communities.

Now forecasters are warning that another round of elevated surf early next week, combined with high tides, could raise the risk of additional flooding and erosion.

Hurricane Polo remains one of the most powerful Pacific cyclones in decades, according to the National Hurricane Center. (Source: KTLA)
