Gas prices continue rising rapidly
SOUTHLAND – Southern California gas prices have continued jumping by more than two cents a day in the last week even as price increases have slowed in other areas of the U.S., according to the Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch.
Thursday’s statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $6.23, which is 15 cents higher than last week and $1.58 higher than at this time last year. The national average is $4.48, which is five cents higher than last week and $1.32 higher than on this date last year. The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles–Long Beach area is $6.28 per gallon. In San Diego, the average price is $6.28. In Riverside, the average price per gallon is $6.17, 15 cents higher than last week and $1.57 higher than a year ago. “Data from the Energy Information Administration and Oil Price Information Service shows that West Coast gasoline inventories are below the five-year average for this time of year, which increases the need for imported fuel as worldwide supply disruptions continue,” said Auto Club spokesperson Kandace Redd. “Until those issues are resolved, Southern Californians will continue to pay higher prices at the pump.” (Source: AAA SoCal) Story Date: October 2, 2026
